Every other week, the city of Austin supports our student through the Community Youth Development program. Mentoring, youth leadership development, and the establishment of a Youth Advisory Committee are three mandatory service components that each local CYD program must provide. In addition, a vast array of services have been developed to meet specific community youth need, including:
  • academic support services
  • life skills and career development
  • character education
  • conflict resolution
  • rites of passage programs
  • youth sports and recreational services, and
  • programs that promote family support and involvement.
All CYD services are provided free of charge.

Every month, one of our teachers guides our students and staff through a Social Emotional Learning (SEL) lesson.

Social and Emotional Learning is a process for helping children and adults develop fundamental knowledge, skills, and attitudes for life effectiveness. SEL teaches the skills we all need to handle ourselves, our relationships, and our work effectively and ethically:

  • Develop healthy identities
  • manage emotions
  • achieve personal and collective goals
  • feel and show empathy for others
  • establish and maintain supportive relationships
  • make responsible and caring decisions
  • handle challenging situations constructively and ethically
